Watching a movie with friends will soon be much easier. A new feature called SharePlay for iOS and other Apple devices will allow users to stream movies with friends via FaceTime. Worldwide Developer’s Conference Event..
This new feature works with all kinds of content, including movies, TV shows, music, etc. in various apps. Apple is currently partnering with Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu, Twitch, Paramount Plus, ESPN Plus, MasterClass, NBA, PlutoTV and, of course, Apple TV Plus. (Netflix wasn’t specifically on the roster.) Music users can stream through Apple Music. iOS users can also watch TikTok videos on the same FaceTime call.
SharePlay is available on devices such as iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, Mac desktops and laptops and works directly from the FaceTime app. To use this feature, simply view the content that someone in the call wants to share and everyone in the call can see it together.
During the WWDC event, Apple also announced that Android and Windows users will soon be able to join FaceTime calls. However, it’s not clear if Android and Windows users will have access to SharePlay, or if it will be limited to Apple’s own devices.
SharePlay will be available as part of an iOS 15 update scheduled for release later this year.
