Battlefield 2042 goes beyond simple classes.
Battlefield 2042 Represents a radical revision in terms of size, functionality, and mechanics of the Battlefield series. As it may not have been well communicated in today’s public trailer, DICE spilled beans at the pre-publication event we attended.
Class-based combat is one of the hallmarks of the battlefield, and 2042 took it to a new level. Classes now exist as a general category focused on a particular role, but it is possible that there are many variations of those roles.
The specialist is basically the operator’s version of Rainbow Six Siege or Black Ops 3. Each specialist places a slot under one of the four classes of the game: Assault, Support, Engineer, and Reconnaissance. The expert is a mercenary Nopat who Pascals his hometown that did not survive the collapse that started the game’s main event. Specialists working with either the United States or Russia are unique characters with their own stories.
When it comes to gameplay, each specialist comes with specialties (unique gadgets) and traits (passive). Think of them as advanced versions of Battlefield 5’s underutilized combat rolls. Do you remember?
Of the 10 specialists available at launch, DICE showed off four. Webster Mackay in the Assault class, Maria Falck for support, Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky for engineers, and Wikus “Casper” Van Daele for reconnaissance specialists.
Their unique gadgets and traits help each to perform well in a class role. For example, Maria’s S21 Sylhet Pistol can be used to revive and recover teammates from range, but Webster’s grappling hook gun allows him to quickly reach a vantage point and build tall structures. You can climb to (BF2: Special Forces Callback).
Weapon types are no longer locked to certain classes in Battlefield 2042. All classes and specialists can use any combination of weapons and attachments, and the game’s innovative plus menu allows you to change your playing style on the fly.
We can expect four new specialists to appear in the first year after launch. Details of the remaining specialists will be shared as the game approaches. There are still some details that DICE hasn’t talked about, such as whether all specialists in the class will be able to use common gadgets. However, like the rest of the specialists, more details about the class will be revealed in due course.
