Fraser Brown, online editor: My love for Guardians of the Galaxy makes me feel very basic-a large-scale Marvel action game with witty words, how novel! ——But I can’t control myself. This is a very interesting short trip, traveling through colorful alien planets, police-infested spaceships, and relaxing cities in the skull of the universe god, beyond the pastime of the guardian chewing popcorn.
Xingjue is a boy who leads a brawl team of semi-reformed criminals who do not respect him. He is the only Guardians member you can directly control, and you are a bit like a punching bag at first. But during the 15-hour adventure, the team became a support system to help each other overcome trauma in truly heartbreaking and heartbreaking moments. When things are likely to become disgustingly sentimental, make sure that there will be a joke or a fight that will give you time to dry your tears.
It’s 2021-a comedic action game with a large-scale treatment in secret. These different aspects will never trip over each other-it’s all holistic. When you explore a planet or fight with some space police, the guardians are always chatting, making connections, working through shit or making running gimmicks with memetic value. The powerful dialogue between the heroes in training and them may be the highlight, but it also makes everything better. I have been a fan of them since their first collaboration in 2008, but this may be their best ever.
Morgan Park, contributing writer: Guardians is basically an Uncharted game with better characters. All the pleasant times spent on shooting, climbing and walking are just a sponge of hours of fascinating and interesting chat among teammates. I like that even in firefights or dangerous climbs, Guardians make you an active participant in every conversation by mapping to the binary dialogue option of LB/RB. Not every choice will have an impact on the task, but you often use your opinion as a leader to set the mood of the team. Soon after, keeping everyone upbeat became as important to me as direct shooting.
When Eidos revealed that Guardians was a completely single player game and Starlord was the only playable character, I was puzzled with many people, but this limitation was a miracle for its story and gameplay. In addition to the usual kicking of their ass in battle, the four teammates also acted as a conduit for the powerful abilities of their personalities: Drax was stunned so that Kamora could kill, rockets blew everything up to cause huge area damage, and Grid Root is a therapist/crowd control expert.
It feels like Eidos really played the best role from a known character mainly defined by big shots. With a large number of comics and two popular movies to compete, it is not easy to make “Guardian” unique in the game. Of course I did not expect to come out of this game, eager to open my first Guardians comic. As someone who has never cared about the world or characters of Deus Ex, I am impressed that Eidos has launched a better version of the Guardian than MCU dreams of.
Jody Macgregor, Australia/Weekend Editor: Morgan Park is here, murdered by Deus Ex fans in 2021. However, the world construction and writing of Guardians of the Galaxy is indeed much better than Mankind Divided. This reminds me of how the Arkham game draws inspiration from the cartoon and comic depictions of Batman actors. This is a true combination of the best of both worlds. The space dog Cosmo and Mrs. Hellbringer are not in the comics at all. The praying mantis can see the future, and Drax speaks without metaphor, just like in the movie-he even has a copy of satirical fools. (It doesn’t matter, but his chest muscles have the physical characteristics of shaking, which is also great.)
Shouting to actors who are mainly Canadian TV and film actors, they seem to be brought to justice for dubbing. The conversation never stopped, the characters bounced lines to each other, without any awkward pauses and yelling like kids in 80s movies, I never got tired of hearing it. Hell, whenever I accidentally walk past an arbitrary point and trigger the next conversation before the last one ends, I get very angry.
