It has been almost a year since we learned that the roguelike sequel will be available on the Epic Games Store. During that time, we published “Darkest Dungeon 2” on the cover of PC Gamer magazine, exploring how Red Hook Studios turned dungeon crawlers into more Oregon trail road trips from hell. Darkest Dungeon 2 is also more interested in letting you invest in a team of four heroes and ride a carriage to the ominous mountain instead of endlessly throwing new heroes into the grinder.
The original “Dark Dungeon” was released in Early Access on Steam, but Red Hook stated that it is necessary to restore this format because the sequel is different in some significant ways. On the one hand, the studio has replaced the original 2D style with 3D art. You can read our interviews with Red Hook co-founders Chris Bourassa and Tyler Sigman to learn more about the artistic vision of “Dark Dungeon 2” or why it may not be as frustrating as you think.
As for the price, Epic has not announced the price of the Early Access version of “Dark Dungeon 2”.
