It was announced tonight that this year’s annual E3 event, both physical and digital, has been canceled. It shouldn’t cause as much damage as major game companies usually host their own digital events, and that’s unlikely to change this year. E3 will return in 2023, and organizers are apparently planning a big comeback. It’s unclear if Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft will host their own annual events this June, or if they plan to do so during the summer.
“According to sources who spoke to IGN at the time, discussions around E3 have been contentious throughout the year, and third parties often find the ESA’s continued silence on its plans frustrating.
Discussions about possible digital equivalents have continued since then, but there has been no strong impetus to push them. Instead, ESA appears to be working on restructuring plans for a larger comeback in 2023. “
