Elden Ring studio FromSoftware has a new game in the ‘final stages’ of development
You might think that after launching a tome like Elden Ring (opens in new tab), FromSoftware may tend to take a year or two (or three) off.But apparently not, as Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently told the Japanese website 4Gamer (opens in new tab) (pass Golden Pine (opens in new tab)) The studio’s next game is in the “final stages” of development.
This statement is in response to questions about the 2018 interview (opens in new tab) In it, Miyazaki states that two of the “3.5” games the studio is working on have yet to be announced – Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the third, and PSVR exclusive Déraciné takes 0.5 games. One of the unannounced games is Elden Ring, while the other has yet to be announced – but may be coming soon.
“Development is currently in the final stages,” Miyazaki said.
While he didn’t offer any clues as to what the game might be, one persistent rumor is that FromSoft is working on a new armored core (opens in new tab) game. In January, a purported consumer survey revealed Miyazaki was launching a new entry in the series, and subsequent leaked screens showed the development was going fairly well.
Aside from that project, whatever it is, Miyazaki is clearly already working on his next game, and is thinking about going a step further: In the “medium to long term,” he says he “wants to make a bigger game than we’ve done in the past.” Anything is more abstract fantasy”, which is a bit unimaginable considering Elden Ring’s dreamy journey to heaven and hell.
That reasoning is hard to argue with, though: Miyakazi explained that during the development of FromSoft’s previous games, including Elden Ring, various interesting “ideas and images” were left on the cutting room floor because they were not suitable for the current The project at hand, he wanted to do something with them.
Miyazaki isn’t alone at FromSoftware: “In addition to the work I’m directing, we’re working on a couple of works directed by directors other than myself, but we’re not at the stage where we can share anything. Details are yet to come. No,” he said. And, happily, he also assured Elden Ring fans that updates will continue to roll out – although I’m sorry to say (not really, though (opens in new tab)) still no sign of any DLC or expansions.
