Everything we know about Project L, the fighting game from Riot Games

If there was one game this year that made everything look forward to it, it was Project L. A fighting game based on the League of Legends universe, the title is capturing the attention of fighting gamers, longtime League players, and more slowly moving forward to its final release.

When is the release date for Project L?

As of now, there is no official word on when Project L will be released. That being said, as part of their big arcane event, they explained during their 2021 Game Showcase in November 2021 that the game is far from done and is unlikely to be released any time in 2022.

What kind of fighting game is Project L?

Project L is a 2D fighting game where each player controls a pair of League of Legends characters in 2v2 battles. In close comparison, the game looks to have the same rhythm as Street Fighter games, but with a flexible tagging mechanic that goes back to games like Marvel vs Capcom or Dragon Ball FighterZ.

On which platforms will Project L be released?

No word yet on what platform Project L will use. However, it’s safe to say that Riot Games’ games are almost exclusively on PC, and it will be there. The console version has not yet been confirmed.

What are the roles in Project L?

Who is making Plan L?

Besides Riot Games, the company behind the title, there are some really interesting people behind the creation of Project L. So far, Tom and Tony Cannon have been positioned as the face of the project, both in the fighting game community. Tom is the founder of Evo, the world’s largest fighting game tournament, and his brother Tony is behind the groundbreaking arcade network coding software GGPO. cool stuff!

Seth Killian, another legend in the Western fighting game world, also worked on Project L early on. However, he quietly left to work at Epic Games in 2019. There is no official word on his departure.

How long has Project L been in development?

Technically, Project L may have been in the works as early as 2016 when the company acquired Radiant Entertainment. The developers consist of Tom and Tony Cannon and Seth Killian, who developed Rising Thunder. The game, while still playable through an open community version, was canceled to make way for Project L.

When is the next Project L beta?

As of now, there is no word on the upcoming beta launch of Project L. There are invite-only playtestsbut nothing comes close to being public, not even a closed online beta coming soon.
