Fortnite gyroscope controls: how to turn them on, how to use them, how the controllers work.
Gyroscope controls have now been added to Fortnite, giving players a new way to aim while fighting for Battle Royale. Players can choose from two new options, including gyro aiming and a flick stick, all of which are designed to remove the player’s reliance on the controller’s right stick.
Here’s what you need to know about the Fortnite gyro controls, how to turn them on, and which controllers support them.
How to Turn On Gyro Aiming in Fortnite
To turn on gyro aiming and flick sticks in Fortnite, just go to your settings menu. Select the new “Touch and Motion” submenu where you can find all the toggles you need. Toggle “Gyro Aim” from off to on.
You can also toggle while gyro aiming is in effect. If you prefer to only turn it on when aiming, choose Scope or Scope and Aim to apply it to non-scope weapons. Select “Always” if you want it to be always on, even if you’re just running around the map. You can similarly turn gyro aiming on and off for building structures.
How to turn on the flick stick in Fortnite
In the same menu as Gyro Aim, look down to find the Flick Bar toggle. The Flick Stick allows you to instantly turn in cardinal directions with just a flick of a stick. So if you’re tired of always getting shot from behind and want to give enemy players something to offer, the flick stick setting will allow you to automatically turn 180 degrees backwards with just one stick movement.
You still need to aim properly from there, but quicker reflexes can give you more fighting opportunities.
Which controllers work with the gyroscope in Fortnite?
Bad news for Xbox controller owners, which means a lot of PC gamers. Unlike its Sony and Nintendo brethren, the Xbox controller doesn’t include a gyroscope function. So, unfortunately, you can’t aim with a gyroscope.
But if you’re using a Sony controller or playing Fortnite on the Switch, you’re in luck. This is what is compatible with the gyroscope in Fortnite.
- personal computer: DualShock 4 or DualSense controller
- PS4: DualShock 4 Controller
- PS5: DualSense Controller
- change: Joy-Con or Pro Controller
- Android: Mobile control.
Fortnite Gyro Control: Best Settings
Here are the options you must choose when configuring Fortnite’s gyro controls:
Active Combat (Battle)
no: Gyroscope controls are disabled for all games
Scope only: Gyro control is only enabled when using ranged weapons
Scope or target: Enable gyro control when aiming with ranged or non-ranged weapons
Scope, Goal or Gain: Added gyroscope to above and when you use pickaxe melee
always: The gyroscope is always enabled
Active Mode (Building)
no: Disable gyroscopes in all buildings
edit: Use gyroscope when editing structures, not building
always: Use gyroscopes when building or editing structures
I recommend keeping the gyro aiming “scope or target” Because having the gyro all the time can cause some…interesting camera issues if you’re a fidgety gamer. If for any reason you find gyro aiming uncomfortable, setting the “Look at Stick” effect (a separate setting, not to be confused) to “Disabled” will let you automatically use the right stick for control in the traditional way.
