Gabe Newell appears to be hand-delivering signed Steam decks
At least two users on Reddit reported that they received the Steam deck personally delivered by Valve’s head Gabe Newell, complete with his signature on the accompanying box.
User SeattleRainPidgeons, Publish on r/Steam, claiming to have seen Newell and the crew making deliveries to a neighbor’s house. They greeted him, at which point he asked how many people lived in their house, then gave them their signed deck despite not having booked a reservation. I’m happy for them, but also very jealous.
another user named bitfidler0 post their account In the r/SteamDeck community, but less luck. They went skiing with friends all day, and their wives took delivery without knowing who Newell was. Here’s what you get for planning outdoor recreation with friends. On the plus side, bitfidler0 claims that they don’t have to pay for pre-orders, and that they received a higher version than they asked for at launch.
The two accounts have existed for several years and appear to be unrelated. Bitfidler0 posted a front door camera photo of GabeN himself, masked and a bit blurry, but it does look like a Valve boss.Another indication of the veracity of these stories is that the signatures on both cases did match the previous example Newell’s John Hancock shared on Reddit.
I’m not going to give you high hopes for the prospect of deus ex Gabena fulfilling your Steam deck dreams – this looks like a one-off sale in the Seattle area. I will say though, if they decide to watch this show on the road, my door is always open. Usually when a stranger rings my doorbell, it’s just a liar impersonating my energy company.
