Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have revealed that Jane Foster will be the next playable hero in Marvel’s Avengers.
She’ll be the first new addition to the PlayStation-exclusive hero Spider-Man released following last summer’s Wakanda Wars expansion, which brought Black Panther into the camp. As for when to expect Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor, Crystal Dynamics says that sometime after Update 2.5, which will be released sometime after Update 2.4 hits the game next month.
“Other than that will be Update 2.5, and while we’ll be back with a specific timing later, we can share that it will introduce a new playable hero to all platforms: Jane Foster: Thor Mighty, “Crystal Dynamics’ blog post read. “Our hero designs are driven first and foremost by their core comic book identity, so as a Quake bearer, her set of abilities will have a lot in common with Odinson’s, but she will also have Obvious Jane element. More details on how Jane will come to life in our game will be announced in the future.”
Elsewhere in the blog post, Crystal Dynamics details update 2.4, which is currently targeting a May release.
“Events like Cosmic Threat, Tachynon Anomaly, and Corrupted Vibranium helped build the backbone for Marvel’s Avengers’ first year, allowing us to add variety to the Avengers program and give your teammates something new and different goals,” the blog post said. “As they enter a rotating schedule this year, we want to make sure they stay fresh and engaging on replays. So in Update 2.4, we’re redesigning the system behind these events with the goal of making them more valuable. Combined With the improved game loop introduced in 2.3, we think these new rewards will bring a meaningful change of pace to veteran players and prepare new players for it.”
Here’s what Crystal Dynamics has to say about the upcoming 2.4 update rework:
- To make each event more unique and worth playing, we’re improving and diversifying the event rewards, and each event now rewards gear from a different set.
- Added unit rewards to wider event missions to provide more ways to earn cargo and cosmetic vendor outfits.
- Added higher power-level gear bonuses to meta-targets to create another accelerated path beyond the soft cap of non-team/Omega-level threat content.
- Meta-goals will reward your entire qualifying roster, not just a single hero, allowing you to equip your squad while playing your favorite hero.
