Sega announced today that it has opened another development studio in Japan as a second game development base for its talented creators. SEGA Sapporo Studio will be managed by Phantasy Star Online 2 producer Takaya Segawa, who has been with the company since 1992. The new studio is located in Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island. The studio officially opened on December 1, 2021, and will serve as a venue for game development and debugging/QA work. Mr. Segawa said that Sega Sapporo Studio will “play a role in the development of entertainment that Japan will spread and enjoy to the world”.
