We won’t blame you if you see this goofy little charmer at a glance and find that you need your own charmer. Read everything you need to know to find, tame, feed and breed Minecraft axolotl.

Minecraft Axolotl: Where to spawn

Real-life axolotl has been found only in the wild on two lakes in Mexico, one of which is no longer present. As such, the Minecraft Axolotl population has certain restrictions that determine where to spawn, but rest assured that it is much easier to find than in the real world.

Axolotl will only spawn under the following conditions:

  • They can only spawn underwater below Y level 63.
  • They can only be spawned in total darkness (light level 0).
  • The spawn position must be within 5 blocks of the stone block and there must be a solid block above the spawn position.

Due to these restrictions, they are mostly found only in underwater caves, especially in coastal areas. However, it’s actually less rare due to the fact that any biome can be spawned if the area meets the criteria.

Can I tame an axolotl with Minecraft?

Technically speaking, you can’t tame a Minecraft Axolotl. Unfortunately, we know.

However, Tropical fish bucket (Not a tropical fish item!) Get closer to them and they will be in your hands. This allows them to be enclosed to some extent and gives them the freedom to guide them to their chosen location.

You can also attach the axolotl to the lead. If you want to transport more, you can also pick them up in the bucket of water. The picked up axolotl never despawns, so you can use this method to effectively get your pet.

Being able to flock axolotl is also very helpful in breeding them.

How to breed Axolotl with Minecraft

To breed axolotl, two adults must be brought to the same location using one of the above methods. Enchanting them with their favorite food is the easiest and most efficient way to do this.

Then you need to get both Love mode By giving each one a bucket of tropical fish.

When both are in love mode, they breed autonomously to make a baby axolotl.

Your baby will follow you until you grow up after 20 minutes, but if you’re really impatient, you can further reduce this time by giving your baby a bucket of tropical fish. Oh, how fast do they grow!

Axolotl Color: Rare Blue Axolotl Breeding

Minecraft axolotl comes in 5 colors.

The four common colors are Lucy (pink), Wild (brown), Gold (yellow), and Cyan (actually whitish with aqua spots). In-game breeding gives the baby’s axolotl a 50/50 chance of inheriting the color pattern of either parent.

There is a 1 in 1,200 chance that breeding will replace the rare axolotl.

Trivia for Curious: Unlike the other four patterns, the blue Axolotl is not based on the actual color of the Axolotl, but is inspired by the Mudkip Pokemon. The low likelihood of spawning indicates an estimated number of real-world axolotl left in the wild. The more you know!

Are Minecraft Axolotl Hostile?

Axolotl is a passive mob — at least for the player.

However, it is hostile to all other aquatic mobs except dolphins and turtles.

If you’re a flint monster (or maybe just terribly clumsy) and damage the Axolotl, you’re more likely to appear dead instead of actually dying. The same is true when damaged by other mobs (like those that are constantly growing for no apparent reason).

While shamming, it slowly recovers lost health over time and cannot be attacked by other mobs until it returns to normal activity. So, thankfully, these cute amphibians are surprisingly strong creatures.
