Napoleon’s shooter Holdfast gets free full conversion to World War I
Sometimes downright ridiculous, sometimes serious RPG, Holdfast: Nation at War is a guilty pleasure for many players. In Napoleonic-era third-person shooters, people operate guns, ride horses, and line up with muskets against enemies.
Now, the team at Anvil Game Studios is releasing a completely free, fully-transformed DLC for Holdfast called Frontlines that transports the same gameplay to another Total War era: World War I. Over five new maps, players can trade these muskets for bolts – action rifles, pistols, melee weapons, grenades, machine guns, and the explosive mortars and field artillery of the era.
“Close voice chat is a staple of the Holdfast game and it will be available in Frontlines. We believe that the community creates the game and VOIP is one of the things that enables beautiful interactions between players (we do our best to moderate and maintain this an inclusive experience),” said Andrew Farrugia, producer at Anvil Game Studios.
This continues Anvil’s tradition of releasing only cosmetic DLC for Holdfast, which has been in development for at least five years but is fully released in 2020. All game updates, which apparently include a brand new war environment, are free.
By the way, I can confirm. The voice chat cosplayers in Holdfast are perhaps the number one reason to try the game.
you can find Holdfast: Nation at War on Steam, which sells for $20. Holdfast: Frontlines will be released for free to all game owners on February 17, 2022.
