Nikkei: Nintendo will reduce global Switch production by 20% due to chip shortage

Japanese News Publication Nikkei Nintendo said that due to the continuing shortage of global chips due to the pandemic, Nintendo had to modify the production of its Nintendo Switch series of systems and reduce the production of units by 20% compared to the original plan. The Kyoto-based company originally planned to produce and transfer 30 million Switches in the fiscal year ending March 2022, but now only produces about 24 million units. The global chip shortage has affected a large number of electronics manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung and Sony’s highly sought-after PlayStation 5 game console and Microsoft Xbox Series X|S game console.
