Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games are coming to Nintendo Switch Online

The company announced today in the recent Nintendo Direct live broadcast that you will soon be able to play a series of classic Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games on your Nintendo Switch through the platform’s online subscription service.

Nintendo revealed that it will soon provide a new membership program through Nintendo Online, through which you will be able to play games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64 and Starfox 64. The service will allow up to four Switches, the company said, owners can play games locally or online.

Through the same membership plan, Nintendo also announced that it will add Sega Genesis games to Nintendo Switch Online. The games shown in the trailer are “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”, “Angry Street 2” and “Ecco Dolphin”.

No specific release date was given, but Nintendo said it will launch in late October and will provide all the basic elements of the Nintendo Switch Online service. The company refers to this plan as “Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.” Users of existing plans can still do this, but they can also change their membership plan if they wish. No pricing was given, but Nintendo said the information and the exact release date will be announced soon.
