Nintendo explains what happens when your Switch Online + expansion pack and Happy Home Paradise expire

Nintendo announced yesterday that those who subscribe to the higher-level Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo Switch Online + expansion pass will receive the downloadable content of “Animal Crossing: New Horizons-Happy Home” for free. Many of you have always wondered what happens if you unsubscribe and download “Animal Crossing: New Horizons-Happy Home”. Today, Nintendo clarified to Eurogamer that you can still access some items you unlocked from the downloadable content on your personal island, but you will not be able to access the islands to design a holiday house, which is the main part of the DLC.

“Players can still continue to visit some of the things they unlocked on the main island of Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Homeland, including adding counters, partition walls, and adding ambient lighting and soundscapes, even if they visit Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happiness The homes are suspended. However, if players cannot access the DLC, they will not be able to visit the islands. In order to be able to visit the islands again and accept the requirements for designing a holiday house, you need to purchase the DLC separately or renew the membership of the Nintendo Switch Online + expansion pack.”
