Nintendo reiterated that the SEGA Mega Drive six-key controller is only available in Japan

Nintendo reiterated that the advanced six-button SEGA Mega Drive controller for the upcoming SEGA Mega Drive game for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be limited to Japan. Those of us who live in the west will have to use a standard three-button controller. A spokesperson for Nintendo of the United States told Polygon that the three-button controller is the most familiar to North American customers. Nevertheless, it is strange to hear that Nintendo will not adopt advanced six-button controllers in the West.

“Different regions make different decisions based on various factors. For the United States and Canada, replicas of the original SEGA Genesis controller are available models. This is the more widely used and well-known SEGA Genesis controller in these regions so far.”
