Open your Overwatch loot box or Blizzard will do it for you
Overwatch 2 will automatically open all your hidden loot boxes, so if you want the satisfaction of doing it yourself, go and spam that space bar.
The sequel is less than four months away (opens in new tab) With it comes some pretty big overhauls to the way players get cosmetic items. Loot crates have been ditched in favor of a nine-week battle pass, and the new currency is replacing the original game’s credits.
As I recently discovered, some people actually like to keep their loot boxes. It’s an impossible task for my own poor impulse control, but commercial executive Jon Spector assures hoarders that their wares won’t be lost when Overwatch 2 launches. “We will not be transitioning loot boxes to Overwatch 2, any unopened loot boxes will be automatically opened prior to launch and all content will go directly to your account,” he wrote in a post. Reddit AMA. (opens in new tab)
But what about all the credits you get from filling required roles and getting duplicate cosmetics? Surprisingly, they also continue to exist. But that’s not the case for anyone hoping to snap up all of Overwatch 2’s cosmetics with them. Spector said, “OW1 points come with you to OW2, but our new virtual currency will be the primary currency, and certain things in OW2 will not be available for purchase with those OW1 points. So they remain as a separate currency.”
Not sure if this means Some Overwatch 2 Bits will be available for purchase with Overwatch 1 Points. Most likely, these points will be used exclusively for anything purchased from the original game, and any new additions will require new currency. It’s still nice to see the credits coming, especially for those sitting on a small hill (like me).
Community Manager Jodie Grace also disclose (opens in new tab) We can finally see and use the new hero model in the second beta, something I didn’t see in the first beta. There are also some more interesting tidbits in the AMA: such as the idea that the team is considering adding some kind of guild or clan feature in the future. When the second beta arrives on June 28, we’ll be able to see more of Overwatch 2, including a new hero, Junker Queen.
