If you have ever pieced together your own gaming PC, then you know the importance of a high-quality motherboard. Although you can usually use a basic board, and it actually makes sense for budget consoles, for mid-range and high-end builds, spending a bit more here can make a big difference. Whether it means better connectivity, improved audio or more headroom for overclocking, this is a textbook example that gives you value for money.
2021 is an interesting year for gaming motherboards, although it is mainly for Intel platforms. AMD X570 and B550 motherboards saw some updates at the beginning of the year, but in general, motherboards based on these chipsets were released last year. The manufacturer did introduce a “silent” update for X570, cleverly called X570S, which has been installed on a large number of updated motherboards-the new motherboard removes the small fan found in the first generation of products and updates the feature list , If you want to build an AMD machine, it’s worth tracking down.
The big news is on Intel. Intel released two new processor series this year: the first is its Rocket Lake chip, which means that a large number of Z590 and B560 motherboards supporting its 10th/11th generation processors have been released. Old boards using Z490 and mainstream B460 at the high end can support its 11th generation chips, but you need to check to make sure.
This year’s big CPU is obviously Alder Lake, and the choices here are even more limited, because so far, only high-end motherboards based on the Z690 chipset have seen the light. This, coupled with the scarcity of DDR5, makes Alder Lake now a somewhat expensive option. The inevitable release of the B660 chipset next year may produce some interesting motherboards, but we must wait and see now.
Basically, a large number of great motherboards have been released in the past 12 months, and they are constantly improving. These are the best motherboards we have seen this year.
