Sony is reportedly a major leader in selling new consoles.
According to a new report from Ampere analysis, Sony Playstation 5 The console is leading so far Xbox series X / S First quarter sales for this calendar year.
Ampere has revealed that both the standard PS5 and its Digital Edition brothers have sold a total of 2.83 million units to consumers by the end of March. That’s 1.31 million units, more than double the Xbox Series X / S’s previous sales.
That said, Ampere analyst Piers Harding-Rolls said it’s difficult to articulate actual demand because both console families have supply constraints due to lack of components. In other words, customers are only buying what is available, and this lead does not necessarily lead to Sony’s higher market share in the long run.
Sony announced last month that it shipped 3.3 million PS5 consoles in the first quarter. This means that many units may not reach the customer and may be owned by the scalper instead. It’s hard to know there because the Xbox no longer shares certain sales.
Indeed, both Sony and Microsoft are suffering from a shortage of critical components and are unable to create the number of components needed to meet demand. Sony believes the stock problem will continue until 2022, but Microsoft is a little more optimistic.
