Raise and breed creatures in Niantic’s new AR game Peridot

Niantic Labs is no stranger to cute creatures in AR mobile games; it popularized the genre with games like Pokémon Go and Pikmin Bloom. But now, Niantic is betting on its own IP with a new AR experience called Peridot.

The game is named after the small animals in the game center. Peridots, or dots as Niantic calls them, will last from birth to adulthood, and new peridot variants can be bred. Because it’s an AR game similar to Pokémon Go, you can take your Dots on a trip, it can help you find items around the world, or it can be used to take photos at local landmarks.

Step up from the Tamogachi or Nintendogs craze (or, you know, real pets) and you’ll spend time with your Dots by teaching them tricks, feeding them, and, yes, you can pet Peridots. As you breed dots, you can mix and match them with your friends’ creatures with different traits to create entirely new creature archetypes and combinations to further enrich the species.

Niantic is looking to pilot Peridot in select regions and countries as soon as possible, although no exact location or release date has been specified. You can pre-register for Peridot on the following website game site Get updates on when they will be available. The game is expected to be available on iOS and Android devices at launch.
