Redactle is a brutal version on Wordle that may take you hundreds of guesses
Part of what makes Wordle so popular and cloneable is that it’s a simple game where you can figure it out with six guesses. It’s a gigantic puzzle that you can spend a few minutes thinking about before moving on with your day (unless you want to use Wordlebot Explain in detail how bad each of your guesses is).
But maybe you’re looking for something harder, a daily guessing game where you can guess dozens or even hundreds of times without even stumbled upon a solution? If you’re a glutton, I’ve got you covered.
Editing Provides you with one Wikipedia article per day.one all Wikipedia articles, to be clear, from top to bottom, are selected from Wikipedia’s own list”Important ArticlesThere are just over 10,000 of them. The problem is, almost all words are removed from the article, so to figure out which article you’re looking at, you need to start guessing the words that might appear in it. Guess a word right and it’ll be found , once you find a whole bunch of words, you might actually be able to guess the topic of the article. But we’re talking about a lot, a lot, and a lot of Guess first.
Not all words are covered up.words like this Yes, it, A sort of, exist, this, and other prepositions and articles, and punctuation, which honestly doesn’t help much when everything else is left out. But slowly, you can definitely eliminate a lot of hidden words and possibly reveal things like whole sentences that will (hopefully) hint at the actual subject of the edited Wikipedia article.
The interface is very smooth – when you find a word, it’s highlighted and you can click on it in the sidebar to quickly take you to every point that appears in the article, kind of like a text search. Another button lets you quickly jump back to the top of the page. I’ve hammered out Redactle on two different days, then finally gave up after about 50 guesses, even after finding a bunch of words. But my attention span is short, and I’m sure that no matter how long it takes, those more dedicated puzzle solvers will enjoy guessing until they’re sure. I’ve seen people on Twitter crack a puzzle in less than 40 guesses, and some have more than 300 guesses. Give it a try and see where you end up.
Redactle reminds me of semantics, another Wordle-inspired puzzle game where your guesses can easily reach tens or even hundreds before you solve (or give up). In that daily game, you try to find secret words by guessing words with similar meanings instead of spelling them.If Redactle and Semantle are a little too punishing for you, I suggest you check out our list The best games like Wordle.
