Ring of Eldon: Strategies for Navigating Between Two Places
If you’re traveling across continents looking for a specific secret, you’ll need to come back in a few days to see some ways to find some hidden areas and bosses. Today, we’ll cover some strategies for making the most of your exploration in the vast open world and traditional dungeons you’ll experience on your journey, and explain how some of the more obscure overarching concepts work. Obviously, if you want to enter the incredible world of Elden Ring without any spoilers at all, now is the time to stop reading.
God runes, how do they work?
When you defeat one of Elden Ring’s shard-carrying demigods, you’ll earn their god rune. However, in order to activate it, you must also find and climb a tower in the relevant area. Depending on the demigods, these may be easy to find in the surrounding area, as well as on the map. However, some demigods are quite hidden and require a lot of exploration to discover. You may even have to go deeper into some smaller dungeons to find your way. Once you’ve climbed the tower and activated the god rune, you can use the rune arc to activate its associated powers, which may include lifesteal, massive health boosts, boosts to all stats, and more. These buffs grant considerable power, but fail on death. Yes, this makes them a bit similar in execution to Embering in Dark Souls III; however, you can choose which buff to apply. If you find yourself needing rune arcs, rats drop them frequently, and can be purchased from various characters in the world.
How to get boss weapons and armor
OK, so you’ve managed to deal with a big boss. Now you want to put on their armor, maybe pick up their weapon or a signature spell. What are adventurers to do? Head to the Roundtable – there’s an open-plan room you’ve probably never checked out. Here, you can exchange “boss souls” for special weapons and spells, as well as purchase full rune armor sets. Now, what if you want more than one boss weapon or spell to complete your ensemble? Because you can only get one token from the boss, right? Here’s what you do – go to the open world and find a giant bell-golem that walks on land. Hop on torrents and clean their feet by knocking out skulls. Be careful, because if they step on you, they can and will crush you. Once cleaned up, these giant, hulking beasts stay still and let you crawl inside. Here you can duplicate a Boss Token so you can get extra turn ins, or just smash them to get extra runes. enjoy!
light is power
An early journey into Limgrave may find you using a flashlight to view some of the darker caves that dot the landscape. However, it’s an annoying obstacle that takes up one of your hands. Instead, look for lanterns early on, which you can easily attach to your hips to light up any area, hands-free! This is especially useful when you’re deep into caves and other dark areas later in the game, where you’ll need everything available. There are a few different places to get a lantern, but one can be found very early on in an isolated merchant’s hut on the Weeping Peninsula south of Limgrave, far from the west and coast. This merchant also sells a ton of other useful stuff, like the Stone Sword Key, so it’s a good place to dump some runes early.
Upgrade your gear (and summons!)
One of the most important things you can do in Elden Ring is to level up your weapons. Standard weapons can be upgraded to +25, and special weapons can be upgraded to +10. Doing so requires special materials, which you can often find in abundance in mines around the world. However, you may find yourself needing a lot of these pads, especially since you may want to upgrade multiple weapons and experiment. Since you may run out of upgrade materials at a certain level, the best way to ensure your supplies never run out is to keep going dungeons around the world, especially mines. By completing certain mines, you’ll get a bell bearing that you can turn in in the round table room, which will unlock different levels of upgrade materials to buy, meaning you can level up tons of weapons to high levels, while No need to track material all day. This also extends to your summoning spell array, as you can find Bell Bearings that allow you to buy ghost grass and other basic materials for summoning upgrades, usually at the end of the Catacombs dungeon. Don’t know how to summon? Once you’ve acquired your torrent and upgrade abilities, head to Ellah’s Church (where you’ll find the do-it-yourself forge and vendor Kale) and meet new characters there. She will remind you to use this feature. Maintaining your gear level will ensure you are up to the challenge ahead! If you’re a heavy melee size and don’t have the mana pool to summon some of the coolest named summons, don’t be too scared – there are summons that you can summon with your health pool!
Swap Art and Affinity
Have a really cool weapon, but you don’t like special skills? Change! Yes, you can attach skills like Quickstep to almost anything to make bloodborne if you want! The system is highly customizable, but it can be daunting to use at first. As you progress, you’ll find tons of ashes that you can mix and match with your weapons. Perhaps more importantly, you can also change the properties of your weapons to make them scale differently or harder. The weapons in Elden Ring change with your stats. Going for a heavy ambidextrous build? Swap your sword’s affinity so it’s measured by heavy agility instead of strength. This system may be difficult to understand at first, but it offers unparalleled opportunities for customization. This is a big advantage – if you don’t want to mess with the system, you don’t have to, as many of the unique weapons in the game have their own special moves that can’t be swapped or changed. no problem!
go somewhere else
Many players try to challenge the boss with brute force. While you can definitely do this, the more interesting and rewarding option is to explore. I know it seems obvious in an open world, but sometimes you really get stuck in the old way of smashing your face in the boss again and again. I mean, it might be fun, but go for a ride! Even if you think you’ve fully explored an area and farmed it out for every shard, there may be a portal or secret passage that takes you to another area entirely. The world is very big, and there are often ways to get around things that seem like they need to go on. Break everything down and experiment!
Craftsmanship can change everything
Craft everything and use your magic potion bottle options. One of your first goals should be to head to East Lyngrave to the Third Church in Marica and pick up the Miracle Elixir bottle. This modular polisher grows as you progress through the game as you unlock tons of options (usually from killing Erdtree bosses). You can throw some more powerful buffs into Flask that allow you to basically absorb a hit for free and automatically regenerate when your health is low, which is great against tough bosses. Perfume and jars are very handy in combat; there is a perfume that allows you to soak up the entire blow. Combine it with Flask and it’s like being completely immune twice in a boss fight and it makes life a lot easier! This is only a cosmetic issue, as there are tons of consumables you can craft to complement your playstyle. Buy and pick up every recipe you see. You never know when you might want to do something!
