Following last week’s teasers, Devolver Digital is now officially unveiled Hero Sam: Siberian Chaos, an indie expansion for Heroic Sam 4 created by an indie developer time lock studio, formerly the famous Hero Sam modding team, worked on the project under the direction of the original Hero Sam studio, Croteam.
Siberian Mayhem sets five “huge” new levels in rugged northern Russia, with action spanning arctic coasts, desolate forests, abandoned villages, and even a ghost town. New enemies and bosses will join the original clan, spreading out new weapons and vehicles in fun and interesting ways, including snowmobiles and new mechs.
It’s clearly still the old hero Sam, though, which is to say, a ridiculously large number of enemies charge the player from all sides while bullets fly and everything explodes. It’s not a bad thing – really, it’s the essence of the Hero Sam experience, and I’m definitely here for it – but as I said when the new game was first teased, I hope With all the new stuff in Siberian Chaos, the designers also beefed up the level design. Big levels are great, but roaming aimlessly in open spaces for a few minutes at a time (my main gripe with Hero Sam 4) isn’t.
Hero Sam: Siberian Chaos is now available for Wishlist steam, and will offer a “considerable” discount to owners of Hero Sam 4. (Sorry, no actual numbers yet.) It launches on January 25th.
