Shin Megami Tensei V becomes the best-selling item in the franchise, Atlus teases new projects

Japanese publications Faguang A list of annual New Year’s cards from developers/distributors across the country was released. It gives the company the opportunity to thank fans for their support over the past year, tease upcoming projects, and share the success stories of recently released games. In the case of Atlus, its news indicated that the recently released Shin Megami Tensei V performed very well in its short life cycle and at the same time sowed the seeds for its next title.

To date, “Maidama Tensei V” has sold more than 800,000 copies. Atlus stated that this is a cumulative sales figure, which means that digital sales have been counted. Although only launched less than two months ago, this made SMT V the best-selling item in the long-running series, breaking the lifetime sales of Shin Megami Tensei IV of more than 600,000.

The publisher has an eventful year of 2022, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Persona. We already know that “Persona 4 Arena Ultimax” will land on modern platforms in March, but Atlus joked that there are other surprises. Finally, Atlus stated that it has an unannounced project in progress.

Combine this news with the popular 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim’s upcoming Switch port, and Atlus is about to usher in a new year. The success of Shin Megami Tensei V is exciting, although not entirely surprising. After all, it is one of our runners-up best role-playing games of 2021, and you can read all about it here.
