Sony celebrates the PlayStation 5 anniversary and announces the top games of the first year

To commemorate the first anniversary of the launch of PlayStation 5, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan attended PlayStation Blog Look back at the past and the year ahead.

Even in a year when it felt difficult to find a PS5 console (and it still is!), gamers have invested a lot of time on their current gen devices. “PS5 gamers have played more than 4.6 billion hours of games and 26 million hours of content on PS5,” Ryan boasted. There is no doubt that the charging capacity of the DualSense controller is also impressive. In addition to these impressive statistics, Ryan also listed the ten most frequently played games on PS5 in the past year. Some are not so surprising, but despite some of the more popular games, there are still some starting games that have managed to stay on the list.

  • Fort night
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  • FIFA 21
  • NBA 2K21
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Destiny 2
  • MLB show 21
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Demon Soul
  • NBA 2K22

It’s great to see Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls sunk with the heaviest hours of Fortnite and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, especially since they are (mostly) released on the first day of the single player campaign.

Jim Ryan also took the time to highlight other large Sony exclusive games such as Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal and Deathloop, as well as Bluepoint Games, Firesprite, Housemarque and Nixxes that the studio has recently acquired. He outlines a glimpse into the future, and millions of versions will be released in “War Gods Twilight”, “Horizon: Western Forbidden Zone” and “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” next year and beyond. A total of 25 games from Playstation Studios are currently being developed for PlayStation 5.

Although PlayStation 5 is facing usability issues, it has passed its first year, and there are many current and upcoming reasons to upgrade. That is, if you are lucky enough to find one in the next few months.
