The fighting game community has received a bunch of neat trailers and announcements as yet another fascinating Evo draws to a close. These include two character announcements for Street Fighter 6: new warrior Kimberly and the return of fan favorite Juri.
Described as a “dynamic new ninja”, Kimberley has a fascination with all things ’80s, sport spray cans and a damn Walkman with super colorful, exaggerated action.in a PlayStation Blog Post (opens in new tab), game director Takayuki Nakayama says she’s an “expert in running and aerial attacks,” with quick moves and a nice blend of tough hitters and sneaky ninjutsu raids. She looks super fun and is a character I definitely want to try.
There’s also the return of Juri, a character that’s been her favorite since her debut in Super Street Fighter 4. She looks smart and, as always, bloodthirsty, her movements are full of personality. A lot of her past moves have been tweaked here and there, as well as Shiku-sen from Super Street Fighter 4.This appears to be another toe-heavy character reveal (opens in new tab) Because she saw rookie Jamie lifted by her feet before decorating him.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t really sold after Street Fighter VI was officially released.Even after Wes wrote about how funny it was (opens in new tab), I’m still put off by the original trailer. However, after seeing Juri and Kimberley, I’m all for it. The art direction is great, and the action looks very crisp. While I’m leaning more towards 3D fighting games, Street Fighter VI increasingly feels like I shouldn’t miss it.
Street Fighter 6 will be released sometime in 2023.
