Evening Star, a team of developers responsible for Sonic Mania, announced that it is developing an original 3D platform game. The studio was established in 2018 and is led by the creative director and subtitle designer Christian Whitehead of Sonic Mania. This will be the studio’s first work.
There are only small clues about what the game needs. One of them is contoured Blog post Announce the game, which implies a shorter character, a long tail, and a bow or a heavy object at the end. The game was made using the studio’s proprietary Star Engine, which the team said was specifically designed to render non-realistic stylized 3D games. No matter what this platform game is, it seems to be in the early stages of development; the team has posts for 3D artists, engine programmers, game programmers, and level designers. Evening Star also stated that it is looking for a publisher.
Whitehead and his team released Sonic Mania in 2017, and it has been hailed as the best Sonic game in years (check our review). Considering the quality of the game, any follow-up ideas from the person in charge will be exciting, but the 3D platform game sounds particularly appropriate. In the coming months and years, it will be interesting to watch this game take shape.
