As most of the Roblox community knows, we have recently experienced a long-term disruption of the entire platform. We apologize for the time it took us to restore the service. On the afternoon of Thursday, October 28th, users began to be unable to connect to our platform. This immediately became our top priority. The team began to work around the clock to determine the source of the problem and get things back to normal.

This is a particularly difficult interruption because it involves a combination of factors. One of the core systems in our infrastructure was overwhelmed due to a subtle error in our back-end service communication under heavy load. This is not due to any peak in external traffic or any special experience. Instead, the failure was caused by the growth in the number of servers in our data center. The result is that most of Roblox’s services cannot communicate and deploy effectively.

Due to the difficulty of diagnosing actual errors, recovery takes longer than any of us hoped. After successfully determining the root cause, we were able to resolve the problem through performance tuning, reconfiguration, and reduction of certain loads. As of this afternoon, we were able to fully restore service.

After the analysis is completed, we will publish an autopsy report with more detailed information, and What measures will we take to avoid such problems in the future.
