The Sims 4 My Wedding Story will open in Russia despite laws against promoting LGBT relationships
The Sims 4 Despite the country’s homophobic stance on the LGBT community, the My Wedding Story game pack will be launching in Russia after all.
When My Wedding Story was announced, it was revealed that the bag would not be available in Russia.
In Russia, same-sex marriage and civil unions for same-sex couples are not allowed, and in July 2020 Russian voters approved a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
Additionally, any content deemed “gay promotion” is considered adult content only for adults 18 and older. There is a law that prohibits the distribution of “propaganda” to minors promoting “non-traditional sexual relationships”. This includes distributing material related to LGBT culture, or stating that same-sex relationships are equivalent to opposite-sex relationships. Because of this, Maxis No plans to release The Sims 4 pack in the country as it would be deemed not to comply with that particular law.
Now, after listening to the community’s “confidences”, Maxis said it was important to uphold its values, “including fighting homophobia and sharing stories like this with those who want and need it most.”
“With this in mind, we have re-evaluated our options and realized that we could do more than we initially thought, we will now be releasing The Sims 4 My Wedding Story game pack to our community in Russia , remain unchanged and unchanged,” studio says.
“Love is love, and the Sims community will continue to be a safe space for those who want to see a world that works for everyone.”
My Wedding Story was first leaked via a leak, before Maxis officially announced the game pack a few days later.
Originally slated for release today, the game pack will now arrive on February 23rd due to initial issues with its release in Russia.
