The doll is scary. The big shiny eyes, cold expression, slender hands and calves seem to be able to act suddenly. In addition, some dolls can talk. It is natural to worry that a harmless little doll will one day say or do something absolutely terrible.
When you talk about a big baby, it feels 100 times worse. I’m talking about a doll that is 20 feet tall. It’s like… Hug Wuggy.
The inherent creepy nature of dolls makes abandoned toy factories a great place for horror games. In the first chapter of the horror adventure Poppy game time, You are a former employee of Playtime Co., revisit the toy factory many years after each employee suddenly disappeared. Seems to be a bad idea! You really should make the sleeping doll lie. Believe me.
Check out the wonderful introduction to the game below. A husky old VHS tape is perfect for setting the creepy mood of a doll that can talk to children.
On the bright side, you don’t need to treat all toys as enemies. When you start to explore and solve puzzles in the dark and weird factory, you have some of your own toys to help you. GrabPack is a set of toy-like hands that can be tied to your body and act as a cute grappling hook. Click the mouse and your big plastic hand will go through the room and grab something. Click it again and it will drag it back.
You can use them to pull handles and levers, or even grab the power node and pull out your arm wire to complete the circuit, which is very useful in a factory that has been closed for ten years. As you might guess, just turning on the lights and getting the machine running requires some work.
Of course, you are not alone. When you assemble the GrabPack and go deep into the corridors and offices of Playtime, you will notice a towering, grinning sentry named Huggy Wuggy standing by the factory. Huggy Wuggy is big, cute and furry. I hate him. He has a big friendly smile. He is definitely a nightmare. He is furry and cute. I want to give you a big hug! A big and pointed hug. I don’t recommend letting him.
The first chapter of Poppy Playtime, A Tight Squeeze, is very short, I guess you can finish it in about an hour. The puzzles are not too difficult, and your cool GrabPack arm is not fully utilized, but solving them is still satisfying, especially when you are quietly waiting for terrible things to happen in the factory only knowing that it will happen. Even knowing that it will happen, when it happens, it frightens me. I don’t like being here at Playtime. But I am definitely interested in coming back when more chapters are released.
You can find Poppy Playtime on Steam, The first chapter costs five bones.
