Netflix released the official trailer for the League of Legends animated series Arcane, bringing the world’s largest game to the world’s largest streaming service. Coming to Netflix this fall, Arcane will tell the origin story of League of Legends characters Jinks and Vi, as well as the stories of Caitlin, Jace and Victor.
These are the characters from the duel city Piltwolf and Zuan. Piltworth is a gleaming metropolis of magic technology, and Zu’an is a polluted undercity in the canyon below it. The two cities were once one, but now they are separate.
As an animated series, its work is impressive, using flat colors on the 3D model to show the appearance of painting or drawing. This is reminiscent of the kind of work that made “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” a visually compelling movie. For animation enthusiasts, it may be worth seeing, even if they don’t know anything about League of Legends.
Arcane was originally scheduled to be released in 2020, but was delayed due to inevitable production issues. The series is funded by League of Legends developer Riot, so Riot maintains creative control and aims to deepen the legend of the League of Legends world. Like games, it is geared towards young and older audiences.
