This mod turns Elden Ring into a seamless co-op adventure
My experience trying to play Elden Ring with my real-life friends was as arduous as my trip to Erdtree. Just when I thought I was getting closer, I fell into a canyon or found a whole new piece of land between me and my target. That’s the struggle to make co-op work, and I wonder if all this disconnection, invasion, summoning signs failing to show up, and inability to ride or fast travel together are part of the game’s grand message about the necessity of suffering.
Well, I said “hooey” to all of this and let me play LukeYui’s mod which turns Elden Ring into a seamless co-op game (thanks, PCGamesN). The mod, which is still in progress, claims to remove “all multiplayer boundaries and allow connections to persist after death.”
That’s not all. With this mod, you no longer have to fiddle with finger therapy to summon friends, and can sit together around elegant stations so you can level up, memorize spells, and generally evoke the vibe of being in an old-school RPG adventure together . To that end, the mod will support up to four players, all of whom will be able to ride on their respective torrents at the same time. There will even be small changes like the fast-travel voting system, where players have to agree on where they are taken.
However, it will not all be smooth sailing. Luke added a stackable debuff called Rot Essence, which gives you all sorts of bad effects each time you die. Rotten Essence can be healed by resting in the Land of Grace.
Crucially, this apparent violation of FromSoft’s online terms of service appears to bypass FromSoft’s EAC and matchmaking system. The mod will run through its own launcher, which means it will be a separate instance of the game from the game itself. LukeYui has previously released an independent Offline launcher Bypassing the EAC, available to players or “for modders to use source code to inject their mods into the game at runtime”.
The mod hasn’t been released publicly yet, but to keep up you can follow LukeYui link module and YouTube.
