Battlefield 2042 finally got voice chat this week, along with around 400 tweaks, bug fixes, and balance changes. The VOIP update will be downloaded on Tuesday at 8AM UTC, which is 1AM PT, 4AM ET and 9AM UK. There is no scheduled server downtime.
Back in February, DICE announced the first season of Battlefield 2042, which will include a new map, Experts and Battle Pass, will be delayed from spring to summer while developers make “extensive fixes” and add new features , for example, the voice chat system was added this week.
The first season’s delay was a response to the poor reception of Battlefield 2042 — its Steam user reviews were still “mostly negative” — but adding built-in VOIP was actually part of the plan, even before Battlefield 2042 was released . The publisher told me last November that voice chat would be added “as soon as possible” after launch.
One change that wasn’t planned before release was a redesign of the scoreboard. Battlefield 2042’s original scoreboard didn’t rank every player on the server, but focused on squad stats. The team-centric angle is a good attempt at DICE, but we’re vain and want to know who has the best K/D ratio – a lot of players hate it. DICE replaced this new type of scoreboard with a more traditional one in early March, and this week’s update will make the full scoreboard visible at the end of a round, another much-needed change.
this Battlefield 2042 4.0 Update Notes Contains over 250 bullet points, according to DICE Community Manager Kevin Johnson, has an end 400 individual fixes and quality of life improvements in the patch. A few more stand out:
- A persistent bug that prevented respawning when the player was shot down near an object has apparently been fixed.
- Differences between certain weapon attachments have become less subtle.
- Rewards for assists will be more lenient.
- Bolt passengers should be easier to shoot.
- Many bugs and inconsistencies related to professional competence have been resolved.
According to DICE designer Florian Le Bihan, the patch notes don’t mention everything, including “changes to mouse aiming” that should make the sensitivity “similar to previous BF games”.
This update has some changes to mouse aiming, and while it’s not captured by annotations, some changes have been made to ensure mouse sensitivity is similar to previous BF games.April 18, 2022
According to DICE, the next major Battlefield 2042 update is scheduled for May and will bring “further quality-of-life updates and bug fixes.”
Additionally, a 128-player map for Battlefield 2042 is also in the works. I like their spaciousness, but many players feel they provide too little cover and require them to do too many long and dangerous jogs between capture points.Last month, DICE proposed a number of map design changes in two blog posts, saying in one the most recent one In BF2042’s delayed first season, we’ll start to see changes to the Kaleidoscope and Renewal maps, layout tweaks to other maps in season two, and “required visual changes.” As a precursor to these changes, this week’s update tweaks the vehicle distribution, although there aren’t many details about the change.
The next area where DICE will propose changes to Battlefield 2042 is more controversial than the map design: professional characters, who usurp the typical career system that has been a major source of pain for Battlefield traditionalists.
