Employees at Amazon and Twitch have been celebrating in the past week because of news that the ratings of popular streaming services have increased by 45% year-on-year. In 2021, Twitch viewers watched 24 billion hours of video on the service, 45% higher than in 2020.
Facebook Gaming has also seen an increase in the number of viewers watching video game streams, as the number of viewers on the platform has increased by 47% year-on-year to 5.3 billion hours, which just shows the power of Facebook, despite the continuous controversy of the platform.
The most watched game on Twitch in 2021 is Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto V (2.1 billion hours), followed by large-scale MOBA, League of Legends (1.8 billion hours), and third is Epic Games’ popular battle royale game Fortnite and ( 1 billion hours). It will be interesting to see if these games will continue to be the most watched games in 2022.
