Weekend Warriors – Retired Jackets

Another week passed, and another busy workday quickly disappeared. Blizzard had a big week announcing the new World of Warcraft expansion Dragonflight (we have a preview of it here and here) and detailing the character redo in the Overwatch 2 beta. Sony Pictures and nDreams announced the Ghostbusters VR game, the new TMNT brawler has a release window, and Volition finally showed off Saints Row’s character customization kit. In addition to all this big news, one of our teams has a big day today.

Our own Dan Tack is leaving game informer Today, after eight years on the team, he’s going on a new adventure that he’ll share later. He’s worked as PC Editor, Senior Editor, our Souls Daddy, The Jacket, and most recently leading our regular streaming on Twitch. He has an invaluable mind for video games and is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. We will miss him dearly, but can’t wait to see him thrive in his new role. We love him so much and wish him the best of luck in the future.

That being said, here’s what the GI crew is up to over the next few days:

Jill Grotte — you. Once again the world is trying to stop me from playing games. My backlog is so bad right now that I’m also trying to put together my MythForce party for some 80s-inspired stupidity. But here’s the thing: the weather will be very nice. It’s leading the player from behind the screen to an outdoor party, and I don’t know if I can get away with the spring siren.

Brian Shea – This weekend, I’ll be digging deep into Kirby and the Forgotten Lands while continuing my Elden Ring game. If I can find extra time, I might continue my career on MLB The Show 22.

DANTAK– Eldon Ring

John Carson — My weekends are getting hectic and catching up on a few things ahead of my vacation to Portland next week, but I’m making time for myself. Tomorrow, I’ll be attending a pre-launch event for “Magic: The Gathering Streets of New Capenna” at my local play store. I’m super excited to check out the new series and see how the complex tricolor faction works in a limited format. Other than that, I’ll be looking into video gameology and the games to play next week for review. Also, the NBA playoffs are still in the first round, so I’ll be rooting for my Milwaukee Bucks.

Wesley LeBron — This weekend, I hope to finally wrap up the Horizon Forbidden City and go back to Little Tina’s Wonderland. But, for some reason, a little game called Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin kept popping up in my head, so maybe I’ll give it a shot. I don’t know – to be honest, I’ve struggled to get into any game since finishing Elden Ring a few weeks ago, really, so I’m just hoping that something will really sink into me soon! Elsewhere, after beating Sonic Generations for the first time last weekend, I think I’m finally going to sit down and watch the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie so I can watch the sequel when it hits theaters.

Marcus Stewart — I may have stumbled upon Elden Ring’s endgame while playing the game this week. Not sure what that might mean yet, but I’ll be walking along the edge while also going deep into the weird west. I briefly started it last night and only played for an hour, but it was enough to make me want to see more. When I’m not gaming, I’m riding my bike, chasing manga, and traveling to see the unbearable amount of talent.

Kimberly Wallace — I’m going back to Chicago this weekend to visit my family, so spending time with them is very important. Whenever I see their nephews, I play Kirby and the Forgotten Land with them, it’s the perfect co-op game! Hope we make good progress. Beyond that, we’ll be cheering on the Bulls tonight when they play the Bucks. It’s a long shot, but you have to believe it!

Now it is your turn! What kind of shenanigans are you going to engage in over the weekend? Do you want to share any games, movies, podcasts, books, music or comics with the community? Do you have a favorite Dan Tucker story that you want to recall? Record your thoughts and ideas on all of these topics and more in the comments below!
