World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic Edition Coming Later This Year
It’s official: Blizzard has finally confirmed in today’s World of Warcraft: Dragon Legion that the Wrath of the Lich King expansion is coming to World of Warcraft Classic.
“His wickedness is legendary. His power and malice are unmatched. Lord of the Undead Scourge, bearer of the cursed rune blade Frostmourne, and nemesis of the living, the Lich King will stop at nothing until Azeroth All life in Sri Lanka has been wiped out. Relive the legend and end his reign.”
The Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack adds a new death knight class, which can be created with no prerequisites and starts at level 55. The level cap for the expansion pack has been increased to 80, and anyone can get a level 70 boost. Want to jump right into the Lich King without playing the Burning Crusade classic expansion first.
Here’s Blizzard’s rundown of what classic fans can expect:
- Cold North: Heroes will begin their journey in one of Northrend’s two regions – the Borean Tundra or the Howling Fjord – and venture through some of the most epic vistas and favorite storylines in all of Warcraft, then Break through the Lich King’s throne of power in Icecrown.
- Rise of the Death Knight: Available to both factions, starting at level 55, the Death Knight – World of Warcraft’s first hero class – harnesses the power of darkness to help fight the evil that threatens Azeroth. While death knights are limited to one per server and require a character level 55 on that server to create, in Wrath Classic we’re bypassing the player’s first death knight requirement.
- New Occupation – Inscription: This new class allows players to write arcane runes that modify spell and ability attributes (cooldowns, damage, etc.), as well as craft powerful trinkets and off-hand items.
- Achievements unlocked: World of Warcraft Classic’s achievements are coming soon, offering new rewards for players’ exploits and achievements.
- Dungeons and Raids: Relive groundbreaking 5-player dungeons like Azjol-Nerub and Culling of Stratholme, and siege Naxxramas in 25- or 10-player dungeons—a take on the pre-World of Warcraft expansion 40-player dungeons An update of the original iteration of .
- Included with existing WoW subscriptions: Like previous WoW Classic editions, anyone with a WoW subscription can also play Wrath of the Lich King Classic Edition for free.
Death knight!
Interestingly, Dungeon Finder, which was added in patch 3.3.5, won’t be available in the expansion — Blizzard says the Classic community says “the importance of social connection is a big part of making Classic their game of choice” — and Arena Teams will be removed in favor of individual arena ratings.
No release date has been set yet, but Wrath of the Lich King Classic will be out later this year, and yes, there will be a pre-release beta: you can opt in now, and to learn more about the expansion, please access wowclassic.blizzard.com.
