You can transfer some Splatoon 2 save data to Splatoon 3 for “some in-game rewards”

There’s been a lot of Splatoon 3 news today, largely due to the Splatoon 3 Direct that happened earlier today. However, not all the interesting news was revealed exclusively in the presentation. For example, returning players don’t have to start completely from scratch. They’ll be able to pick up where they left off online in Splatoon 2 sooner than they thought.

According to Nintendo’s official Splatoon website, “If you have save data from Splatoon 2 on your system, you can transfer some of that data to Splatoon 3”. Each Nintendo Account can only be done once, and Splatoon 2 save data must be on the same Switch console using the same user account.

If Splatoon 2’s save data meets that criteria, it can be transferred “by launching Splatoon 3 or by entering the lobby while connected to the Internet”. You can even get some rewards in the game. A list of them can be seen below.

  • Acquire three Golden Shelton licenses, which you can exchange for primary weapons regardless of player level
  • Join the battle for Anarchy from the start of the game, regardless of player level
  • Start the game with a higher rank, depending on your rank in Splatoon 2
  • Match with players of similar skill level in Splatoon 2
