The first thing I did in Amazon New World was to see if I could use my username to make fun of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, because of course I did it, but Amazon was one step ahead of me. New World does not allow the use of “Bezos” or “Amazon” in your player name. I am determined to explore the world as “Jeff Bezos’ Wallet”. what should I do now?
After confirming that the Bezos variants such as “JeffB”, “Bez0s” and “Be Zos” were also locked, I tried to select only “Amazon”. That word is also not allowed. These names are obviously not locked because other players have already claimed them. When a name has been taken, it will say, “This name is in use.” However, a name containing the words Amazon and Bezos “cannot be used”, which is what New World said when you typed bad language.
Chris Livingston of PC Gamer had a clever idea to try “Beff Jezos”, to our surprise, it was not locked! However, it has been accepted by people more witty than us.
So why does New World recognize the name of the founder of Amazon on the level of swear words? We will see if Amazon will respond to us with a statement, but the obvious answer is that in Amazon’s own game, hundreds of players dunk Jeff Bezos in Amazon’s own game, which would make Amazon It looks a little ridiculous. The same is true for the word Amazon itself (unfortunately, my alternate name “Unionize Amazon” is not feasible).
Judging by how many of our name variants have been shot down, I bet there are some other words adjacent to Amazon that we haven’t discovered yet are locked. I am a little obsessed with knowing what is allowed and what is not allowed, so that it may take me another hour or so to enter the game.
